  • Founder of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI): In 1962, Rukmini Devi was instrumental in establishing the AWBI, the first of its kind in the country, under the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

  • Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960: She played a key role in drafting and advocating for this landmark legislation, which laid the foundation for modern animal protection laws in India

  • Deeply influenced by Theosophy, she believed in the sanctity of all life. This spiritual foundation guided her activism. she campaigned against animal cruelty in circuses, cosmetic testing, and inhumane slaughter practices.
